"The second building used for the Green Door School was a one-room
building sporting a wood stove which was used for both heat and a
means to heat pots of soup and stew for hot lunches during the cold
winter months. There was a hand water-pump, and each morning the
teacher filled a bucket with fresh water. A long-handled dipper was
used to fill paper cups that the children were taught how to fold
