"They brought with them 60 head of cattle which were said to be in
better condition at the end of the trek than they were at the beginning.
He farmed his land and continued to raise his fine Durham cattle. At
the time of his death on May 13, 1871, at the age of 78, he had
acquired nearly one thousand acres of land in the Lorane area. His
obituary termed him 'one of Nature's Noblemen' and 'an honest man'..."
